13.11.2019 Mystery of the Scalar Fields

The Higgs particle of the Standard Model, the scale size of the Einstein metric, the Planck mass, and the cosmological constant may all be described by scalar fields which probably have time dependences as the cosmology of the universe evolves. I will discuss each of these concepts with special emphasis on their relationship to each other and present some oversimplified models. The importance of the consistency of the mass scales involved shall be emphasized.
